What is Planning Poker?

Planning Poker (also known as Scrum Poker) is a consensus-based estimation technique used by agile and Scrum teams to estimate the effort or complexity of user stories and tasks.

Each team member picks a card with their estimate simultaneously — preventing anchoring bias where one person's opinion influences others. After reveal, the team discusses differences and re-votes until consensus is reached.

The Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21…) is the most popular deck because the growing gaps reflect the natural uncertainty of larger estimates.
